Janet is a former professional dancer and accomplished choreographer, whose critically acclaimed works have appeared in the repertoire of Dance, Theater and Opera companies throughout the western United States. Janet is the director of the Academy of Dance, and the founder and former Artistic Director of Dance Theater Northwest, Resident Choreographer of Spokane Coeur d'Alene Opera, Founder of Inland Northwest Dance Association, Co-founder of Theater Ballet of Spokane, and has been associated with Coeur d'Alene Summer Theater as a Producer, Director,Choreographer,and Performer. Janet was selected as the Director representative for the State of Washington at the Dance Excellence International Festival for Young Dancers five times, has taught for the Washington Association of Theater Educators and was selected as an International Dance Education Delegate to the People's Republic of China in 1996. She has written and published articles and books on dance. Janet is listed in "Who's Who of Business and Professional Women's Hall of Fame," "Outstanding Woman of the 21st Century," and five editions of "Who's Who Among America's Teachers." In addition to her other talents and accolades, she wrote, produced, and choreographed the "Toy Shelf" which has become a Spokane holiday tradition.

Phaedra Jarrett comes to Spokane from a full and rich career as a professional dancer. Starting with Sacramento Ballet, for whom she danced for six years, she then joined Oakland Ballet and after a year was promoted to principal dancer. Six years later she joined Ballet Spokane first as Ballet Mistress, then Associate Director and now as Artistic Director. She has had the honor to dance with many companies in the San Francisco Bay Area including Margaret Jenkins Dance Company, Mark Foehringer Dance Project, Amy Seiwert’s im’ij-re and Dance Through Time. Her vast performing experiences have given her a treasure of knowledge and expertise from the great classics such as Les Sylphides, Don Quixote, Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake and Giselle to modern masterpieces such as Billy the Kid, Les Noces, Serenade, Concerto Barocco, and the Moor’s Pavane not to mention the contemporary masters of our time, the likes of Septime Webre, Donald McKayle, Dwight Rhoden, Val Caniparoli,Trey McIntyre and Amy Seiwert. Her choreography is a reflection of those rich experiences and in her words, “Much like those that came before me, I stand on the shoulders of giants.” |
